Progress Continues Across the Porter Hills Campus

Construction continues to move forward throughout the Porter Hills project, with each area of the new building reaching a different stage of progress. From exterior finishes and interior rough-ins to structural framing and roofing, there is plenty of activity happening across the site as the campus continues to take shape.

Village Flats, the Independent Living wing of the building, continues to make steady progress both inside and out. Window installation is now complete, and exterior brickwork is nearing the finish line. Exterior siding will begin shortly, bringing another noticeable change to the appearance of the wing as the building exterior comes together. Inside Village Flats, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-in work has been completed on the first floor and has now moved to the second floor. With those systems in place, insulation is underway on the first floor, with drywall installation following closely behind. As walls begin to close up, the interior spaces will start to look and feel much more like the finished residences.

Progress is also moving along well at The Homestead, the Assisted Living portion of the building. During construction, this area is divided into Assisted Living South (ALS) and Assisted Living North (ALN). ALS is nearing completion of its framing, with both the first and second floors now framed and building system rough-ins beginning throughout the wing. ALN is progressing approximately one month behind ALS and is currently wrapping up second-floor framing. This staggered approach allows crews and trade partners to move efficiently from one area to the next while maintaining momentum across both wings.

At Hidden Lake, the future Health Center, another exciting stage of construction is getting underway. Crews have started standing the metal wall panels that will form the structure of the wing, with framing activities expected to continue over the next several months. As more of these panels are installed, the size and layout of the Health Center will become increasingly visible across the site.

Town Square, which will serve as a central common area for the building, has completed its structural framing and is now being prepared for roof installation. Looking ahead, work on the bridge connecting the new construction to the existing Porter Hills Village facility is expected to resume onsite in about a month. This connection will be an important piece of bringing the existing and new spaces together as one cohesive campus.

While much of the progress is becoming increasingly visible from the outside, just as much coordination is happening behind the walls. Major infrastructure systems are currently being roughed in throughout Village Flats, requiring several trade partners to work closely together. DHE is handling the mechanical and plumbing systems, while Feyen Zylstra and Rescom Electric are teaming up on the electrical work. Total Fire Protection is also moving forward with installation of the building's fire suppression systems.

With mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems all sharing space above ceilings and behind walls, communication and coordination between these teams is critical. Each trade's progress directly impacts the next, and the teams have done an excellent job working through challenges, solving problems together, and keeping work moving efficiently.

With multiple areas advancing at the same time, the transformation at Porter Hills is becoming more noticeable each week. As exterior finishes continue, interior walls begin to close in, and additional portions of the building take shape, the project continues to build momentum toward the next major milestones.
